Our community.

Mosaic is made up of many parts, all beautifully connected.

Together, we form a holistic community that serves people of every age and stage.

For more than 125 years, Mosaic has been part of the South Perth story.

We’re a warm, diverse church family based in South Perth—just across from Mill Point Road. Our story goes way back: the first meeting of what became our church was held in 1900.

Over the years we’ve grown and adapted—but our heart remains the same. This is a place where all are welcome, and everyone can find a place to belong in our Mosaic.

Like any group that’s been around as long as we have, we’ve experienced different seasons. At the moment, we’re in a re-planting season. We’re small but we see all sorts of beautiful green shoots emerging from the roots planted long ago.

LEADERSHIP TEAM.

Jonno Crane

Community Pastor

Jonno began leading Mosaic in 2025 having been a part of the community since 2022. Jonno loves to listen to people’s stories, to walk alongside them through the highs and lows of life, and to see them fulfil their God given potential. A Pastor and Teacher, Jonno spent almost two decades living and working in sub-Saharan Africa before returning to Australia in 2022.

Jonno has been married to Heather for 31 years and together they have five children, four children-in-law and four little grandchildren, all of whom bring much joy.

Steve Izette

Pastor Emeritus

Steve came to Mosaic in 2012 and began transforming the church and its place in the community. He started the Early Learning Centre and re-developed the building into its current design. Before coming to Mosaic, for 20 Years, Steve was the Leader of Carey Baptist Church and School which he founded in 2004.

Steve has been married to Kim for 39 years and together they have two children, two children-in-law and four grandchildren. Steve continues to play an important teaching, consulting and mentoring role at Mosaic.

Heather Crane

Community Chaplain

Heather came to Mosaic in 2022,  after returning from nearly 20 years of life and work in Africa. Moving amongst Mosaic's various communities, Heather helps tend the Sunday Gathering, facilitates the English Conversation Groups and serves the Mosaic Early Learning Centre community.

She is grateful for this role where she can encourage others to listen and notice the movements of God, and where spiritual formation, hospitality, culture, theology and discipleship intersect in everyday life. Heather loves walking through life with Jonno and her lively family!

Anne Abaygar-Cruz

Centre Director

Anne started as one of the pioneer Educators with Mosaic Early Learning Centre in 2014. After completing her qualifications, she became one of the registered Early Childhood Teachers and led the Kinder room for 7 years. In 2019, Anne became part of the management team and was the Educational Leader at that time. She was formally appointed as the Centre Director in 2024 and now oversees the daily operations of the service. Her love and commitment to Mosaic ELC is shown with her many years of dedicated service.

She is a loving wife and a wonderful mum to two beautiful girls who also began their early learning journey at Mosaic. Mosaic ELC has become a second home for Anne and her family, a place built on love, trust and connection.

Janet Carey

Janet came to Mosaic in 2012 when it was still South Perth Baptist Church to assist in the development of what is Mosaic as we see it today

Janet is the Approved Provider for the Early Learning Centre and manages the finances and staffing throughout Mosaic. Janet has been journeying with families during and beyond their time at Mosaic over the years and has now seen some children reach high school age! Her other joys are her two grandchildren, and exploring the world.

OUR STORY.

Our story began on 22 August 1900, when thirty people gathered for the inaugural meeting of what was then the South Perth Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Rev. F.H. Radford, who had been ordained at Flinders Street Baptist Church in Adelaide in 1896, a new faith community was formed in the South Perth community.

By 1901, the congregation had completed its first church building at what is now 258 Mill Point Road. It became a cornerstone of local life—a place where families gathered, friendships grew, and faith was shared.

Sadly, in 1961, the original building was destroyed by fire following an electrical fault. With hope and determination, the congregation rebuilt—and in 1964, moved just across Mill Point Road to our current home on Lawler Street.

From those humble beginnings over a century ago, Mosaic South Perth continues to be a vibrant and welcoming community of faith. And, we’re still shaped by the same heart that began it all: a desire to know Christ, love one another, and serve our city.

Early days.

In 2012, South Perth Baptist church began a season of redevelopment that lead to the opening of a Mosaic Early Learning Centre and multipurpose facility. Today the Mosaic South Perth Baptist Church meets in what is called the "Chapel" which is also used by other parts of the Mosaic Community. The building is now a modern, warm and light space designed to encourage abundant life to all who enter.

A new season.

WHAT WE BELIEVE.

As a Baptist church, we value freedom of conscience, the centrality of Jesus Christ, and a community shaped by love, service and discipleship.

Authentic worship, where we bring who we are before God.

Genuine community, where questions are welcome and growth is a journey.

Active service, both locally and globally.
